Hawai’i’s First
REGENERATIVE LUMBER SUPPLY
Providing builders, designers, and makers with sustainable, high-quality wood that honors Hawai’i’s land and culture.
CRAFTED FROM THE LAND.
BUILT TO SUSTAIN.
Responsibly harvested and processed to meet your needs. Every board carries the story of Hawai’i’s forests and our commitment to mālama ʻāina.
FROM OUR FOREST,
TO OUR COMMUNITY.
Our work begins at nahele (forest), where sustainable management restores balance and opens new possibilities.
We partner with the U.S. Forest Service, Hawai'i Division of Forestry and Wildlife, and Native Hawaiian land stewards to create a reliable supply chain for locally sourced building materials.
Every slab supports our industry, strengthens our economy, and invests back into Hawai‘i’s future.
Our GUARANTEE
Always 100% locally sourced. Always ethical tree harvesting.
Nahele Lumber Co. consults with Native Hawaiian cultural practitioners and state foresters, prioritizing invasive species and overgrown plantation timber to improve forest health. Trees are among our planet's only renewable resources. When done sustainably, building with wood can have a net-positive footprint through hazardous fuel reduction and native ecosystem restoration.
Your purchase directly supports local jobs and lessens our dependence on imported goods. A Regenerative Lumber badge may be provided upon request, showcasing that your wood came from a regenerative supply chain, certified by the Albizia Project.
HOW IT WORKS
SUSTAINABLE HARVEST
Timber is sourced where removal is essential for forest health and wildfire prevention, supporting native ecosystem restoration and helping to better manage invasive species.
LOCAL MILLING
Logs are processed at our O’ahu sawmill or partner wood processors. Lumber is carefully stickered until dried, unless green lumber is requested. Our milling process ensures quality and reliability.
WOOD PROCESSING
Dried lumber is transformed into sustainable building materials, architectural millwork, custom furniture, surfboards, and other higher-value products celebrating Hawai’i-grown wood.
He aliʻi ka ʻāina, he kauā ke kanaka
The land is a chief; man is its servant. Land has no need for man, but man needs the land and works it for a livelihood.
WHERE FOREST TO FRAME BECOMES A REALITY
Hale Li’i ADU
A 400 ft² prototype built to showcase the potential of local lumber in a timber frame home.
The Hale Li’i ADU, completed alongside Hawaiʻi Division of Forestry and Wildlife and other industry partners, used plantation eucalyptus and southern yellow pine from state timber management areas, demonstrating that an entire project can be built with local wood.
Nahele Lumber Co. exists to make this a reality for our construction industry by providing reliable and consistent, high-quality lumber from sustainably managed Hawai’i forests.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Not necessarily. While many people assume Hawai’i-grown lumber is more expensive, our pricing is often comparable to imported hardwoods. For example, our Albizia lumber starts around $10 per board foot, similar to many imported species. Plus, buying local supports Hawai’i’s economy, reduces shipping impacts, and helps create value from trees already growing here.
-
Yes. We can ship worldwide through our corporate FedEx account. We also offer in-store pickup at our Wahiawā, Oʻahu shop and can help coordinate inter-island shipping, including courier drop-off to the harbor when needed.
-
We do more than sell lumber. Our work supports responsible forest stewardship and restoration efforts across Hawai’i by giving new life to locally-sourced wood that is ethically removed or salvaged. Unlike big box stores that rely heavily on imported materials, we focus on building a sustainable local wood economy while offering unique Hawai’i-grown species and personalized support for your project.
-
Local wood can be used for almost any millwork or woodworking application, including furniture, cabinetry, trim, siding, decking, doors, signage, surfboards, and custom architectural features. Different species perform better for different uses, and our team can help guide you toward the right material for your project.
-
Absolutely. Many projects successfully combine local and imported woods depending on budget, design goals, and availability. Mixing materials can be a great way to incorporate Hawai’i-grown wood while still meeting the needs of your project.
