Nahele means forest

and that’s where our work begins. Hawai‘i’s forests hold both challenges and solutions. Invasive species like albizia threaten native ecosystems, while beloved trees like eucalyptus and pine are often underutilized. Hawai‘i should be able to build with wood grown right here at home. For too long, our islands have relied almost entirely on imported lumber. That dependence drives up costs, increases our carbon footprint, and overlooks the abundant materials already around us.

Nahele Lumber Co. is Hawai‘i’s first 100% locally sourced lumber yard. We mill and distribute lumber grown in our islands — including Eucalyptus, Lehua, and Mango — responsibly harvested and processed to meet the needs of builders, designers, and homeowners. Every board carries the story of our forests and the commitment to mālama ʻāina

We believe that healthy forests are the foundation of thriving communities. That’s why our work goes beyond cutting and milling wood:

Responsible Sourcing

Trees are harvested with care, ensuring forest health and regeneration.

Low Impact, High Value

Local milling reduces shipping emissions while producing lumber designed to last generations.

Restoration First

Our operations contribute to removing invasive species and encouraging the growth of native ecosystems.

By working hand-in-hand with forest managers, landowners, and community partners, we ensure that every tree harvested contributes to a larger vision of balance — caring for the ʻāina while building the future.
